One of the most fun things about Jamaica is the almost constant Reggae Music. At times, it seems to come out of the rocks and palm trees!!!
Well, it actually does on the beach at Hedo, because that's the way they've got the sound system set up.

Reggae is a form of music that evolved from "Ska", an island version of Skiffle music. Of course, greatest Reggae artist who ever lived was Bob Marley, who with his band The Wailers, took the music to worldwide success, greatly influencing the development of Rap and Hip-Hop. In Jamaica, and the Caribbean in general, other genres such as DanceHall and Lovers' Rock emerged from the Reggae/Ska matrix, all part of the richly diverse form known as (look for the section in your favorite record store) World Music.

We'll cover the "must-have" reggae CDs, many of which are compilations of the best of an artist, a year, or a genre.  We'll include songlists from some of the mixes the deejays at Hedo have put together, and also descriptions of the "Island Groove" series, which we put together especially for each year's trip back "home".
